We are Plumb Creative

The word plumb means, to a complete degree, totally, absolutely. It is a measure of perfection. It’s also the way we do things.

Everything we create, every single project, each client and their story, we care about it 100%. We give it our all so that we can deliver beautiful, excellent work, every time.

Who We Are

  • Think of us as your publishing contractor. You bring the story, the memories, the lifetime of moments worth preserving. We bring the expertise, the process, and the deep care required to shape all of it into a book you are proud to share with the world.

Plumb Creative Books is the publishing imprint of Plumb Creative LLC, specializing in visually complex, deeply personal publications: legacy memoirs, poetry collections, illustrated books, and custom projects that do not fit neatly into a single category. We operate as a bespoke hybrid publisher in practice, holding ourselves to professional industry standards. Our work is guided by one conviction: that every story told well and made beautifully is a contribution to something larger than itself.

We work with authors who want professional quality without the gatekeeping of traditional publishing and without the overwhelm of going it alone. We handle everything from ghostwriting and editing to design, printing, and launch, and we do it with the care you would expect from a partner, not just a service provider.

  • Empathy comes first. There is no story we cannot love once we have truly listened. We take time to understand not only what you want your book to say, but what you want it to mean.

Integrity is nonnegotiable. We are transparent about our process, honest about what to expect, and committed to delivering work that reflects both your vision and our own high standards.

Quality is the baseline, not the goal. Every book we produce is held to the same standards you would find at a traditional publishing house. We learned those rules carefully so we would know exactly when and how to bend them in service of your story.

Preservation is our purpose, in every sense. We are not just making books. We are building heirlooms, capturing moments that would otherwise slip through the cracks of time. That commitment extends to how we work: we prioritize sustainable printing partners, digital formats, and environmentally conscious practices, because the world these stories are left to matters too.

  • Plumb Creative LLC was founded by Julie Kanta in 2009 as a graphic and web design studio, built on the belief that beautiful work and meaningful storytelling are never at odds. Over time, that belief led naturally toward books.

In 2014, Julie began working with legacy memoirs as part of her undergraduate capstone project, helping people transform their personal histories, photographs, and physical artifacts into professionally published books. The first title, My Century in Motion, came out in 2017, and the work that produced it revealed something she had always sensed: memoir is not just a genre. It is an act of preservation, a way of saying that a life mattered and deserved to be remembered.

Plumb Creative Books grew from that conviction. We are building toward formal hybrid publisher certification through IBPA, with the goal of offering our authors everything a traditional publisher provides, plus the accessibility, transparency, and above-standard royalties that make hybrid publishing a genuine alternative. We are a womxn/veteran-owned independent business, and are proud of it.

Meet the Founder

Julie Kirsten Kanta

Julie is the founder of Plumb Creative LLC and the publisher behind Plumb Creative Books. She has spent her career at the intersection of storytelling and design, drawn always to the question of how a life's worth of experience can be shaped into something lasting and beautiful.

She began working with legacy memoirs in 2014, and the work quickly became a calling. Her first published title came out in 2017, and since then, she has guided clients through the full arc of the publishing process: from the earliest interviews and artifact gathering to the moment a finished book arrives at the door. As a writer, editor, and digital designer, she brings a rare combination of technical precision and creative instinct to every project. Her clients often tell her that she captures their story even better than they imagined possible. That is the standard she holds herself to every time.

Julie is an Air Force veteran, and she brings the values of service, discipline, and genuine care for people to her work every day. Her Scandinavian heritage gives her a particular affinity for immigrant stories and multicultural personal histories, and her years of focused work in legacy memoir, including a master's thesis on legacy memoir and hybrid publishing, give her a depth of both practical and scholarly grounding that shapes everything Plumb Creative Books produces.

Her guiding creative philosophy, borrowed from Picasso and lived out daily:

Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist.

Our Philosophy

Every book we produce is someone's story, someone's legacy, someone's way of saying: this life happened and it mattered. We bring creativity, craft, and genuine care to that responsibility, from the first word to the final page.
